In this TED talk Steven Pinker argues that violence is on the decline throughout the ages. While this sounds like a good thing, I find hard to reconcile this trend with the increase of means to inflict and spread violence: from firearms to hand made bombs, to chemical weapons to the nuclear arsenal. Is it the very power of the means that intimidate us from turning violent?
Look at the raised hands with the cameras, phones and camcorders. Thrilling!
